Fears and hesitations can be a natural response to starting the process— let’s talk about it

Common Misconceptions about Counselling

1

If I go to counselling it means there is something wrong with me.

Going to counselling doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you—it means you value your mental health and well-being. Everyone faces challenges, and seeking support is a sign of self-awareness and strength. Counselling is about healing, growth and finding new ways to navigate life’s ups and downs.

2

Counselling is just talking—it doesn’t actually solve anything.

While talking is a big part of counselling, it’s not the only part. Counselling helps you develop tools and strategies to manage challenges, gain insights into your behaviours and emotions, and create actionable steps toward your goals.

3

Counselling won’t work for me because I have tried it before.

Every counsellor and counselling approach is different. If past experiences weren’t helpful, it doesn’t mean counselling isn’t for you—it might mean you need to find the right counsellor or approach that fits your needs and preferences.
